The film

Set against the Mardi Gras Carnaval, two teenagers struggle to survive the seedier side of island life and hold on to their innocence and their dreams.

New voices, new worlds

Only 5 films have been made in Cape Verde in the past 50 years, the most notable was Pedro Costa’s, Casa de Lava (1995), which screened at the Cannes Film Festival.

BAFTA nominee, writer/director Robbie McCallum makes his feature debut with Atlantic Heart - the first full-length narrative feature ever to have been filmed in the rare Kriolu language.

When naive Lucas loses his dog among the busy Carnaval crowds, he begins a journey through the bars, backstreets and bordellos of Cape Verde that will challenge his hopes and change the course of his life.
